How to tell whether you have allergies or a cold — both cause sneezing and congestion, but differences in duration, fever, and symptom pattern reveal which one and how to treat it.

Allergies and colds can cause similar symptoms—runny nose, congestion, sneezing—but have different causes and treatments. Allergies are immune responses to allergens; colds are viral infections.
